LOCAL HOCKEY COACH STARS IN CHAMPIONS TROPHY TRIUMPH
Southern River Hockey Club coach, Matthew Butterini(pictured against Pakistan), played a vital role in the Australian Hockey team’s recent victory in the 2011 Champions Trophy held in New Zealand. Matthew showed his experience and skill in contributing in all of Australia’s pool matches and qualifying finals. His teamwork and work rate in the deciding final was an important factor behind Australia’s great win.
Matthew coached the Hawks in 2011 and had success with the club securing Premierships across a variety of competitions. The players enjoyed the highly skilled Butterini passing on his valuable knowledge of the modern game and experienced first hand the work ethic required to be successful at the highest level.
The club is hopeful Matthew can return to oversee the clubs development in 2012 in what is an Olympic year for the Kookaburras.
It is remarkable that a local club can entice one of the best hockey players in the world to its ranks and is a testament to Matthew’s commitment to the sport at its grass roots level.
