WE WANT YOU !!

March 23rd, 2011 by Janson Hoskins

The Southern River Hockey Club is in a unique position of being able to offer vacancies in both under 17 and under 15  junior teams for season 2011. With the influx of new members this year, we have elected to increase our teams this season and as such the opportunity has arisen for players in this age bracket to join this exciting progressive hockey club. The Hawks have been extremely successful in previous seasons and our junior teams have enjoyed being a major part of that. Our junior coaches are extremely well credentialled and with current Australian hockey team member, Matthew Butterini contributing his knowledge, we are confident that success will continue. The club is also pleased to announce that junior players in all age groups are more than welcome and the popular “Hook Into Hockey”" programme will also commence in the near future.

Senior players are now in full training mode and numbers at all sessions is extremely encouraging. With the commencement of the season rapidly approaching, it is now time to think about registering your interest if you intend playing this season.

Hawks Numbers Add Up

March 10th, 2011 by Janson Hoskins

Following the highly successful Registration day held at the Southern River Hockey Club on Saturday 19th February, the club has decided to conduct a second Registration session on Thursday 17th March 2011 commencing at 6-30pm. As summer sports conclude it is opportune to conduct a second Registration day to capture those prospective players who wish to join this highly successful hockey club. At this stage positions are available in teams in both junior and senior competitions. The Hawks are committed to field teams in all Junior age groups including the popular “Hook Into Hockey” programme for players as young as six years of age. Senior team nominations will cater for turf teams both Men and Women and grass teams for all levels including Veterans and O/50.

The Southern River Hockey club is setting new record training numbers this year as  the pre season sessions enter a new intensity phase. With current Australian player, Matthew Butterini as the Hawks coach this year, the numbers attending training are at an unprecedented level. Butterini is utilising his experience of national training exercises to ensure that the club is well prepared both physically and mentally to tackle the upcoming hockey season. Competition will be extremely high this year as players vie for a position to play in the highest level possible. The club has entered teams on artificial playing surfaces in both senior men and women this year and indications are that another successful 2011 season is well on track. Training is currently being held on Tuesday evenings at Melville Turf commencing at 8-00pm and as of Thursday 17th March, training will commence at the clubs headquarters at Les Sands Reserve in Gay St Gosnells. Thursday training sessions will commence at 6-30pm and all members both old and new are invited to attend. Those players who may not aspire to games on artificial surfaces are encouraged to join us in an exciting time of club development and can be assured that Coaches are available for all grades.Senior Coach, Matthew Butterini will also be heavily involved in the junior development program and any prospective young player will have access to the highly credentialled coaching panel at the Hawks. It is extremely important to recognise that pre season training for both senior and junior players is an integral part of the season. Fit and well prepared players will certainly enjoy an advantage over opposition players who may have not have committed to such a rigorous and well co- ordinated pre season phase of the 2011 season.

The Hawks this year will again ensure that all players will be given an opportunity to play at any level that they wish and all players will benefit from the clubs policy of giving all players equal playing time during the regular home and away season.

More information on this well managed exciting club can be obtained by phoning Janson Hoskins on 0437157556

Training Now in Full Swing

March 2nd, 2011 by Janson Hoskins

The Southern River Hockey Club has hit the ground running as pre season training ramps up. The numbers at the Sunday morning sessions have been exremely encouraging and it is evident that players are out to impress new coach Matthew Butterini. The intensity at these sessions has risen since training began following the Myalup camp in early February. The club is particularly excited about the number of young players returning early and the injection of new members will ensure that the competition for spots in all teams will be intense. It is also evident that some of the more experienced players are striving to make an impression on Butterini as they have also returned early. They are setting the bar high in the their search for that all important head start to the season and their fitness levels at this early stage are progessing well. Large numbers at the Sunday sessions have excited coaching staff and it appears another successful on field campaign this year will follow. Those players who have not yet returned and any new players are invited to begin training in an effort to gauge the level of increase in nominated teams this year.  Please note that Sunday training on March 6th will not occur due to the long weekend. The following week Sunday training will recommence at the earlier time of 8am at the clubs headquarters in Gay st Gosnells. Turf training has also begun for players vying for spots in the top teams and will be held every Tuesday evening at the Melville facility at 8.30pm.

The club is always willing to welcome new players and advise that they will cater for  all ages again this year ranging from the popular “Hook Into Hockey” program through to veterans and turf and grass Ladies teams.

More information on the club can be obtained by phoning Janson Hoskins on 0437157556 or attending any of the training sessions mentioned above.
