SOUTHERN RIVER HOCKEY CLUB-REGISTRATION DAY

The Southern River Hockey Club is holding its annual senior/junior registration day this Saturday 19th February at its headquarters in the Les sands Pavilion Gay street Gosnells. The day will run from 11-00am to 2-00pm and a sausage sizzle will be operational during this time. Committee members and coaches will be in attendance to answer any questions about the upcoming season including any queries from prospective new members and parents. The club will cater for all junior age groups, senior women and men including turf sides in both competitions as well as veteran and vintage men. The club is particularly excited about season 2011 with Matthew Butturini’s appointment and the overwhelming number of attendees at the club’s first official training session last Sunday. Training is now conducted each and every Sunday morning commencing at 9-00am at Sutherlands Park. Butturini will oversee the pre season training sessions with Club President John Heath to co –ordinate the sessions during his absence. As the season opening on 15 th April approaches turf training and a lift in intensity in general training will occur. Any new members looking to join the club this year are invited to register their interest at the Registration Day. Any players keen to play in the turf sides, both men and women, pre season training is a pre requisite as competition for places will be very keen. With the expected influx of quality players, existing members are encouraged to attend the early training sessions.

HAWKS SET TO SOAR

Myalup 2011 Hawks

The Southern River Hockey Club is preparing to embark on its most exciting season in its relatively short history. The historic signing of current Australian hockey squad member Matthew Butturini has generated an enormous amount of interest  and has attracted many enquiries from prospective new members. The club began its pre season training last weekend with its annual training camp at Myalup Beach in the south west. The camp was attended with close to 40 people slugging it out in a series of running and leg building exercises.

Butturini attended the camp as a familiarization session and was impressed with the group and the commitment shown. The Hawks have had a remarkable successful start to its history with a predicted team increase this year of over 20%. It is anticipated that a record 18 teams will represent the club this year including senior men and women, veterans and all junior age groups. The club is extremely keen to add to its already impressive trophy cabinet which includes 7 Premierships and Challenge Cup successes.

The Hawks are conducting a Registration Day on February 19th 2011 between 11am and 2pm at the Les Sands Pavilion Gay St Gosnells for junior and senior players.

The Myalup camp proved to be very successful and in the annual Saturday road race a sprint finish saw Lee Hansord pip the strong Paul Hewson with Adam Thompson a creditable third. Jacinta Inman was the first woman across the line.  The beach  proved very popular with the traditional sand cricket giving all players an opportunity to gain valuable aerobic and leg strengthening exercises.

The Myalup camp traditionally signals the commencement of pre season training and all members and any prospective new players are invited to attend regular Sunday morning sessions. These sessions will commence on Sunday 13th February at the clubs Gay St headquarters in Gosnells commencing at 9-00 am.
