PIMP OR PRO
Do you recognize anyone here ??
If you don’t then you possibly missed out on the social event of the year. Yes that’s right ….. The Pimp and Pro nite last Saturday brought out the very best in all who attended. Costumes were zany, costumes were raunchy and costumes were deceiving !! Congratulatons to Lou Spear and her committee for organising such a fun event. The music was loud and the music was good. Thanks Naveen… The drinks were cold and the price was right. Thanks Brian and John… The food was hot and the food was plentiful. Thanks Nina and her band of usual helpers. The night was a raging success and the only downside was the lack of numbers. The club tries to cater for all aspects of the members needs and part of your commitment is to attempt to attend and mix socially with your fellow team mates and club members. Keep your eye out for the next Hawks Nite and keep it free or you will again miss all the fun !!

junior scene
If you havent yet been to the grounds on a Saturday morning you should try and get there just to witness the amazing numbers of kids playing our great sport. We have again been granted consolidation of grounds this year for under 11 and under 13 district matches. This means that we have 8 games of hockey plus the “hook into hockey” program running each and every Saturday morning. The tireless efforts of all involved are recognised and the club is proud of you all !!
Each week we also ask for two senior members to assist and the co operation has been fantastic and further strengthens the bond between the junior and senior sections of the Mighty Hawks.
GUESS WHO !!

Southern River threes V’s Fremantle
“Reinforcements needed”
It all started on Thursday night when we sat down to pick the sides for the weekend, we knew we were going to struggle for numbers from the outset. After careful consideration I chose a side of nine players so that Phils Metro threes would have a full compliment of players for their away game to Kwinana. We were going to rely on Dave Vanderputt and to juniors Thomas Vince and Jay Jay Werney to play a game at Mod’s ground and then fly back to our game to make up our numbers. Brad George and John Trent kindly offered their assistance until the reinforcements arrived after already playing a game in Metro four. Unfortunately John’s stint did not last long as he received a very nasty knock across his hand and had to leave the field leaving us with only ten men. Shortly after loosing John we lost Dizzy to a crude tackle and we now only had nine players on the park. The most pleasing part of all of this was our determination to keep Fremantle out. In fact we had run plenty of counter attacks against their defense and had been awarded three short corners it was during the third corner that our reinforcements rocked up, much to our relief.
Half time came with the game still in the balance. We stepped up our assault on Fremantle in the second half, due to us making a few structural changes at half time and now we had a full side to work with for the entire half. We received a few more short corners and finally we popped a goal in via Quinton. The second half saw us make many attempts to score but the end result was one nil to us. Thankyou to all our supporters once again and to my guys who have worked on their fitness, discipline and hitting and trapping as all four have improved.
GO HAWKS!!

Southern River threes V’s Moderians
“At least we did not get wet”
We started with a good side on paper and with the confidence to take on the topside on the ladder. Our warm up was good and for the first time this year we not only had a full side but we also had two reserves. The start of the game had us pressing hard into the Moderians half of the field only to be repelled with ease. Their backline was going to be our major stumbling block. The game was in the balance for about the first twenty-five minutes before the Mod’s scored a scrappy goal against the run of play. We still felt very confident about getting the goal back and went into the half time break feeling as if we could still win this game. The second half was played almost exclusively between the two twenty-five yard lines and we felt like we were going to crack the game open anytime soon, but our forwards were just being pushed of the ball all over the ground making it impossible to get into the circle. With about twenty minutes to go we turned over the ball with nobody covering in our defense, we had gone all out in attack to try and get the equalizing goal, this resulted in a two on one against Callum our keeper and their second goal for the match against play. The post match talk had us amazed that we had carried the ball so much and held so much possession yet we did not get one short corner awarded to us and did not even have one shot on goal. The final result was two nil to Moderians.
Thankyou to all our supporters once again and we will work on passing the ball on quicker in training to avoid the negative tactics of these topsides in Metro Two

Southern River 5 vs Ranges 0
Some of us were hoping for a typical wet and windy game after all hockey is supposed to be a winter sport however it was not to be and although it was slightly cooler than the previous games the Southern River Hawks still turned up red hot and ready to play which was fortunate as the Ranges team was quick out of the blocks and attacking our goals. Gail, Sass and Nat held them off and somewhat broke their spirit early on which enabled the half back line of Chris, Karyn and Jacinta to push forward giving the Hawks forwards plenty of opportunity to score. The first goal was scored off a short corner by Gail (about time, I was going to say how many shots do you need but after my efforts on the weekend I will keep quiet). There was some excellent team work and communication between the forwards who dazzled the opposition at times not with brilliance but with basic quick short passes into the D and plenty of shots being had. For a change we entered the half time break at 1 zip instead of our normal 2 zip and then we started to find the goals (well some of us). Gail scored another off a short, Karyn put in a lovely goal which didn’t for a change nearly take some ones head off and Michelle finished off some classy stick work by Chris. Jessica did a solo run from halfway and finished it off with a lovely precise shot at goals. Both Tracy and Jessica worked well in the inner positions and were always amid the build up to a shot on goals. Hayley and Paula were at their persistent best maybe the passes to us are just too perfect, yes that’s the problem we are only able to hit or trap the difficult ones….Another exceptional team effort by all the ladies well played.
Goal Scorers: Gail 2, Michelle 1, Karyn 1, Jessica 1
A REMINDER FOR ALL TEAMS…..
PLEASE MOVE THE GOALS TO THE SIDE OF THE PLAYING FIELDS AFTER TRAINING ON THURSDAYS NITES TO ALLOW FOR GROUND MARKING AND MOWING ON FRIDAYS.. THANK YOU !!
AFTER TRAINING
A disturbing trend is developing in our club and we need to address it and sort it out. Numbers entering the rooms after training and following games has decreased remarkably this season. In the past we prided ourselves on the number of people socializing after training and matches and the place was humming. For some reason this tradition has dwindled. We all need to make a make an effort to come in for a short time and hear announcements and rub shoulders with your fellow Hawkers. We are not asking you to stay all night but you do have an obligation to the club to make an appearance. The same goes for after matches. If you are playing away or playing outside of the traditional Saturday time slots please make an effort to get back to Hawks Nest. You may be surprised what good time you will have. In an attempt to keep fees to the bare minimum we have factored in bar takings to alleviate the financial burden of all members. If we don’t make the predicted turnover in the clubrooms we will have no option but seek elsewhere to raise the necessary funds to put teams out each week. This means fees WILL need to increase to cover the shortfall. We all don’t want that so help us to help you and have a good time whilst doing it !! The bar is open every Thursday after training and every Saturday after matches…. Please make the effort. We realise that by having two turf teams this year playing times do vary but we need members of these teams to attend the rooms to keep the Hawk Family together !!!
