Southern River Hockey Club

The Southern River Hockey Club Open Day on April 4th at Sutherlands Park timetable has now been confirmed. The day will commence at 1.00pm with the opening exhibition match commencing at 1.30pm. The Hawks will showcase their full playing lists with the following match schedule :
1:30 – 2:30 Mens Astro 1 V Mens Astro 2

2:30 – 3:30 Women 1 v Women 2 ( Mixed)

3:30 – 4:30 Mens Grass 3 v Mens Grass 4

The last match will provide all players with an opportunity to participate with a mixture of Vets and Mens Grass 5 .

The famous ” Alfresco ” area will be operational with a sausage sizzle and full bar facilities available. This is an excellent opportunity for the club to present to the hockey community in the district as well as providing all players with a solid hit out prior to the season commencing on the weekend of April 18.

A junior Open Day will be scheduled in the near future.

To avoid some confusion with training venue for Thursday 26 March, all members are advised that we will assemble in the carpark Les Sands Pavilion at 6.30pm. Any new members are also invited to attend.

The Southern River Hockey Club will hold its annual Open day on Saturday 4 April commencing at 1.00pm. The day will be highlighted by a series of intraclub scratch matches. The main two events will feature the top mens side against the second 11 and the top ladies side against either u/17′s or the mens third side. This event has become a integral part of the Hawks season launch since the club’s inception and gives the community an opportunity to view the excellent facilities and playing surface at Sutherlands Park. An alfresco area will be set up and refreshments and a sausage sizzle will be operational. The club still has a limited number of vacancies in all sides and any prospective new members are encouraged to attend the day.
The club is also pleased to announce the senior Ladies coach will be Fred Keane with Dave Frost as coach of the Ladies Second side. The club takes this opportunity to thank the outgoing coach Alahna Ansett for her invaluable contribution over the the last two years with a premiership and two Challenge cups in the cupboard. Both Fred and Dave are looking forward to the challenge of maintaining the successful on field performances. In particular with plans to ensure that the Ladies second side have an enjoyable season with many of the players not only new to the club but also new to the sport.

The Capel scratch matches were held last weekend and a solid hitout against some quality opposition gave the club and senior coach Leighton Keane a valuable insight into the depth of his squad this year. He indicated he was satisfied with the work rate of his group and was particularly excited with the progress of the young players and the contribution from the new players.

Please allow a 3 hour drive from Perth and all players are expected to assemble 30 minutes prior to start time.
These games are an integral part of the selection process for season 2009 and it gives the coaching staff a valuable insight into the structure of teams and assessments of players new to the club.

The annual pre season trial matches against Capel Hockey Club will be conducted this weekend at the Busselton Hockey Stadium. Team announcements will be made this Thursday at training. It is imperative for those players wishing to play on artifial surface this year to be available for the weekend’s fixtures. The match schedule for these games is as follows. Please allow yourself approximately a 3 hour drive to Busselton.

All games are on Saturday 14/3/09
