Hawks Win “The” Trophy !!

January 8th, 2009 by Janson Hoskins

HAWKS WIN BYRNE AND JUDGE TROPHY

The Southern River Hockey Club has won the prestigious “ Byrne & Judge Trophy” for the second successive year. This coveted accolade is awarded by Hockey WA for the most successful on field club per capita head in the entire association. The Hawks had a sensational season 2008 with six out the club’s ten teams competing in Grand Finals and were Premiers in two grades and narrow runners up in the other four. The club has now displayed tremendous consistency in its inaugural three seasons by securing a total of four flags, three Challenge Cup pennants and now are the proud recipients of two Byrne and Judge Trophies. The Hawks are committed to hockey in the region with membership in excess of 150 and are looking to strengthen the sport in the coming season. There are plans to field two extra senior sides with at least one of those sides to compete on Astro Turf to compliment the senior mens top team. The senior ladies are also looking to atone for their narrow defeat in the Grand Final and are seeking to bolster their playing roster with an aggressive recruitment drive already in the pipeline.

The Hawks have realised that success takes an extreme amount of hard work and in an effort to continue the rapid growth of the fledgling club, have opened nominations for Senior Coaches both in the Mens and Womens competitions. In a conscious decision to remain in touch with the modern day coaching techniques and ideas, the Hawks are seeking coaches to enhance the success achieved to date. Interested persons should contact Lloyd Jones on 94596453 or Barry Vanderputt on 94597166 to register their interest.

The annual pre season training camp at Myalup on the weekend of January30th is rapidly approaching. With confirmed attendees in excess of 40 players, the club is excited about the upcoming season and are confident that the remarkable growth shown in the first three years of its existence can continue well into to the future. Training will commence in the week following the camp and all players both existing and prospective are invited to attend. Further information can be obtained by phoning Janson Hoskins on 0437157556.
