THE GAMES
The Ladies Challege Cup Report- Paula Westell

Hawks 2 vs Kwinana 1

We should have known the odds were against us when before we had even started playing we were in a spot of bother with Gail our most ‘experienced player’ (oldest) on the team trying to fit into her 9yo daughters uniform lucky for Gail (US) Tilly had a spare cosy in Gail’s size (phew) then in our warm up jog Jacinta managed to fall over a huge obstacle (her feet) and land somehow squarely on her backside, but there were three things in our favour, Alanah had worked out what day it was and turned up to play (unlike Thursday night), Karyn had found 10cents on the ground which she quickly secured in her sock and the Vets plus other club members, partners and friends had come to cheer us on and we needed every bit of it as Kwinana were quick off the blocks and wanted to score. Our backline of Gail, Tash and Lou were being hammered left, right and centre. Tash (Goalkeeper) seemed to almost be in two or three places at once, running, diving, chasing and saving certain goals. Gail and Lou cleared the ball (most of the time) only to see it back again soon after. Once we were over the initial shock we took control of the game and definitely had our opportunities to score and we did with Ang nailing a shot at goals. Kwinana persisted and their short play was excellent but the Hawks kept the pressure on them and were soon wearing them down and winning the ball, with mounting forward pressure it was only a matter of time before the next goal was scored. Tanase had a couple of excellent runs down the left and was nearly rewarded with a well picked up mid-air ball which had her almost score a fabulous goal but unfortunately the goalie couldn’t get out of the way quick enough and then it happened some quick thinking from Alanah saw Paula run onto a well weighted pass to score the second goal and give the Hawks some breathing space. The Hawks held on to a 2 – nil lead until the dying seconds of the game when Kwinana scored their only goal off a short corner. With the win now under our belts we were off to celebrate with champagne and some dirty entertainment provided by Lou with a well performed dive across a very large mud pit. Well played by everyone and congratulations on our second Challenge Cup Pennant !!
Best on Ground: The entire team
Goal Scorers: Ang 1, Paula 1

The Ladies 26/7/08-Paula Westell
Hawks 4 vs Kwinana 0

What a complete turn around from last week, it was great to be apart of a full team effort. Everyone played an excellent game but still some stood out above others. Alanah was on fire (already pumped from her earlier rugby game) and on target scoring our first two goals off short corners. Jacinta was in a new position as left inner due to a foot injury to Hayley and she shone although we thought the majority of our team were defensive players Jacinta proved us wrong and was ever hungry for the ball and to score, and score she did with a lovely sweep shot into goals (Hayley had better watch out). The half back line was as usual dominant with Karyn and Jo in control, and no black eyes to Karyn this week, but when Kwinana did get the break away Gail was on song picking the players off one by one and clearing the ball, however Gail you are not supposed to deliberately stop the ball with your foot, well not that obviously!! Lou was also stead fast in defense clearing the ball with precision yet again and our stand in goalie did a marvelous job, there were times when I thought Kwinana would score a certain goal against us and yet Helen managed to get boot or stick to the ball and clear it out. A big thanks to Helen for standing in as goalkeeper, well done, much appreciated!! Ang, Paula and Tanase (our so called forwards) had better start getting some goals we are all well overdue, fancy being beaten by a part timer!! Lets keep up this momentum for next week. Well played team !!
Best on Ground: Jacinta, Karyn, Alanah, Jo
Goal Scorers: Alanah 2, Jacinta 1, Karyn 1

The Ones 19/7/08 and 26/7/08-Barry Vanderputt
1’s Vs Dale 19/7/08
The 1’s, coming off a good win over Riverside the previous week, were up against Dale well below them on the ladder
Due to a change in the fixtures, we were without Brad in goals & David Vanderputt had to fill in at late notice. (extremely late notice, we had a kicking fullback for the 1st
10 minutes)
Dale put considerable pressure on the defence early which resulted in a goal which beat a diving keeper.
This goal stung the Hawkes into action. Passes were strung together thru the midfield which resulted in a number of short corner & field goal opportunities. 3 goals were scored relatively quickly by a Hawkes side keen not to be flustered & determined to play a composed brand of hockey.
Half time score 3 – 1 up.
The 2nd half was one way traffic with total dominance by the Hawkes. A young Dale defence (also missing their regular experienced keeper) was now under constant pressure & could not hold out an attack that had plenty of opportunities. A memorable goal was the highlight of the 2nd half with Paul Bailey executing a fine pass from the extreme right to Daniel Keane at the top of the circle. End result being a clinical finish.
Final score Hawkes 7 Dale 1
Goal scorers Lee Hansord 3 Paul Bailey 2 Daniel Keene 1 Jono Lanzon 1
As a separate issue, I had to umpire on the day. It was disappointing to note the calls of unfair umpiring from the opposition sideline. While I no doubt would have made some mistakes, I’ve never deliberately favored one side, never have & never will. Particularly against a club I’ve played for & proud to be associated with for so many years.

1’s V’s Uni 27/7/08
The 1st 10 to 15 minutes saw the Hawkes get a number of opportunities which could not be converted on the score board.
Uni slowly worked their way into the game with a number of short-corners & a goal late in the 1st half. It wasn’t long after when a quick free hit found left wing Clinton Laurentsch at full pace at the top of the circle. Unfortunately a stinging shot whistled just wide of the post.
Half time score – 1 nil down
The 2nd half saw both sides trying to gain the ascendancy by winning the tough battle in the midfield. Captain Lee Hansord workrate at right inner & intensity over the ball was exceptional. James Gradisen once again cruised the midfield pulling off some trademark low to the ground “indoor-like” tackles.
Uni scored again late in the 2nd half which took the sting out of the game then scored again with a few minutes to go.
In the end, Uni worthy winners on the day. The Hawkes effort could not be questioned but it was not to be our day.
Final score Uni 3 Hawkes 0
Best players Lee Hansord James Gradisen Clinton Laurentsch.
Special thanks to Guy Hoskin. Came as a spectator but brought the gear along just in case. Guy played the last 20 minutes of the game. You never know what will happen on the day!
Heathy – getting a reputation as a calm & collected ump! Another sound display with few questions asked by both sides.

The Vets-Lloyd Jones

The Vets team who are on top of the table took on third placed Hale on their patch. Following the robust and physical encounter in the 1st round we felt a bit vulnerable given that we were going into the game without our regular fullback Len Davies, forward Paul Dixey our marathon runner Colin (rat) and our regular goal keeper John Zimdahl. On the plus side we welcome a new recruit and experienced player to the club, Jeff Anderson and Kevin Pethick who came along to assist the side.
We started the game with 10 players for the 1st 20 minutes until Naveen Holt arrived to the rescue. Despite being a player short the team played excellent hockey with some good drive from mainly the right thanks to some penetrating drives from right wing Mike Nicholas. However, much against the run of play Hale managed to put away two goals in the 1st half.
Despite being 2 goals down the team appeared calm at the half time break with constructive comments in identifying ways of getting back into the game. Unfortunately at about the 15 minute mark Hale scored their third goal. With about 10 minutes of the game remaining the team’s persistence and continuous pressure on the Hale defense started to produce results. The Hawkes got their 1st goal from a typical reverse stick sizzler from Trenty that gave the goalie no chance. The second and third goals came from well struck shots at goal from Kevin – one from a short corner and the other a well struck field goal. The scores were level and with the team’s confidence running high, the scent of victory permeated the air. With about 3 minutes to go and the immense pressure on, Hale conceded a short corner. The short corner was well hit out by Phil Hewton to Barry Vanderputt, who trapped the ball and realized that his winger was on song, passed the ball to him – Mike pinned his ears back and struck the ball firmly at the goalie who could do no more than deflect the ball into the goal. Not to be denied Hale almost got one back in the dying seconds of the game only to be met with some resolute goalkeeping from Dave Vanderputt.
It was one of the great comebacks I have witnessed and a wonderful team effort – our full back led by Dave Frost and Barry were solid so were our half line led by Kev, Jeff Anderson and Steve Airey. The two inners in Phil Hewton and Colin Stewart worked hard and so did our goal sneak/freak Trenty and also our two wingers Mike and Naveen. An excellent win, coated with true grit and character.
Best players – Kevin Pethick; Barry Vanderputt and Phil Hewton.
Goal Scorer/s – Kevin Pethick (2); John Trent (1) and Mike Nicholas (1)

Under 11 Blue-Paula Westell
Hawks Blue 0 vs Kalamunda 5

The score line definitely was not a true representation of how the game was played with the Hawks 85% of the time in forward attack. There were some excellent scoring opportunities created by Ethan, Isobel, Jasmin, Gurkami and Manvir with Ethan and Isobel very unfortunate not to have two or three goals against their names. Emily and Zac were dominant in defence with Emily improving in leaps and bounds with each game, she will make an excellent full back. Unfortunately the half back line wavered and this is where Kalamunda were able to capitalize on some breakaways. Brodie was excellent in goals but was no match for some of the goliath players in the Kalamunda team. In a couple of years Brodie will definitely be a force to be reckoned with. Well played team, if you keep up that excellent team play and forward pressure it will only be a matter of time before those goals are hitting the oppositions back board.

The Twos-Barry Romaro
Southern River twos V’s Old Aquinians
“The One That Got Away”
The mighty Two’s have struggled for numbers for the last couple of weeks so we were looking forward to playing with a full strength side, it was not to be with Barry failing to get over his wrist injury. This caused a big change as no other team member had played full back before. With the changes done we looked like a new side with Clive and Rex as our full backs Quinton in a unknown position of left half Peter trying out left inner and Rhys playing his first game for us at right wing.
As always spirits were high and we started well. It was not long before dizzy had one the score board
And this should have been the start of better things to come but it was not. We penetrated their defense with ease time and time again without scoreboard gain. The half time whistle saw us going in at one all. We spoke at half time about our need to get the shot away when in the Dee and entered the second half with vigor. Old Aquinians shocked us into reality by belting in the first goal of the second half, putting them in the lead by two goals to one. This was the test we needed, as we have not lead in a game and then let it slip away and I could tell by the boy’s effort we were not going to let that happen today.
We attacked their defense for the entire second half and finally we knocked in another goal
Now we had evened up the score line up all we had to do was pop another goal in but today was not our day. We just did not make anything from our chances when we carried the ball into the oppositions Dee. We chose three players for best player’s honors today but I would also like to mention Conner, Peter, Quinton and Rex for their ability to play well in new and very foreign positions. Some extra work at training wont go amiss and I am sure the guy’s are prepared to do it.
Last but not least thanks very much to Daniel Keane for umpiring our game today.

FEES FEES FEES FEES FEES
I know its well into the 2nd round of fixtures and the finals are rapidly approaching, but we still have some members who have not paid their fees or made an arrangement to. This is not acceptable and those offenders may find themselves not playing come finals time !!!! The club pays ALL fees due to the Council and HockeyWA so we can play each week and then its up to us to pay our dues to the club. We are a club with pride and character and our members make us proud. Do the righty and sort yourself out if you haven’t done so already.

Hawks Squash Dale

July 30th, 2008 by Jonathon Lanzon

Last week the Hawks saw themselves take on local rival club Dale in the second Hawks-Dale derby match in the Provisional 2 Gold competition. Once again the day and time for the match was changed early in the week. Although previous match changes have unaffected the Hawks this time the Hawks found themselves with a player short, their goalie.

With the match scheduled to start the Hawks had no choice but to put a “kicking fullback” in to the firing line. Clinton Laurentsch was the man for the job. Given another chance I’m sure Clinton would think twice before putting his hand up after being put under extreme pressure in the early stages of the game.

Thankfully David Vanderputt came to the rescue having his goalie kit on and ready to rumble 10 minutes into the game. This allowed the Hawks to have a properly fitted goalie and clean sheet fill-in Clinton to run on to the field in his optimal position. Unfortunately Dale took advantage of the chaos in the back line after an easy cross to an unmarked man saw themselves in the lead after the 15 minute mark.

Being a goal down, although painful at first, made the Hawks up their game play changing the direction of the game in favour of the Hawks. After plenty of attack the hawks found themselves being awarded a short corner after a dodgy tackle on Jonathon Lanzon in the penalty circle. Masterful striker Lee Hansord didn’t waste his opportunity after smashing the ball into the back board of the goals equalising the score line.

With both teams even the Hawks continued to attack aggressively. The next goal came very unorthodox after Paul Bailie received the ball on his reverse stick from the penalty spot and rather than passing it off to a free player did a reverse stick shot between the goalie’s legs into the goals. The Hawks were finally in the lead and just at the right time, as that was the end of the first half.

The second half started with a new found confidence level in the Hawks camp. Right from the moment the time started counting down the hawks showed why they were top of the ladder with domination all over the field. The Hawks this time found their third goal from Daniel Keane who smashed the ball into the net from the edge of the circle.

Two goal buffer wasn’t enough and the Hawks continued to attack. This time Paul did a beautiful run into the penalty circle taking a shot that was deflected by first time scorer Clinton. As if like training Lee showed the team how to score goals getting the fifth goal and his second for the night after an unstoppable shot into the top left corner of the goals.

With the Hawks in the lead by five goals to one top goal scorer Jonathon was feeling a little left out. After a Hawks defensive clearance through to Lee and then to Jonathon waiting at the edge of the penalty circle he finally saw himself on the goal sheet after a hard strike into the inside wall of the Dale goals. The final goal came moments before the end of the game after a pass from Daniel to Jonathon outside of the penalty circle and then to open Conner Cracknell waiting patiently on the goal post allowed Conner to easily slot in his first goal for the team.

The siren went and with the hawks trailing 1-0 at the start of the match they found themselves winning 7-1 after a perfect team performance. The win was enough to keep them at the top of the table. However that may change with next week’s game against second on the ladder UWA in what will be a pre-grand final match. The previous match up between the two teams was the challenge cup 0-1 loss a week earlier.

Goals: Lee Hansord (2), Paul Bailie, Daniel Keane, Clinton Laurentsch, Jonathon Lanzon, Connor Cracknell
Best on Ground: Lee Hansord, Leighton Keane, James Gradison

THE GAMES-CHALLENGE CUP
The Ones-Barry Vanderputt
1’s V’s Uni – Challenge Cup 2008
After coming off a 7-1 win over Riverside last week, the 1’s were keen to continue the winning streak.
Uni has been a consistent performer all year having a well balanced side of experienced players & a dynamite penalty corner hitter.
Game started with the Hawkes holding the ball well & applying plenty of pressure on the Uni defence. Our midfield was well on top which limited Uni mounting too many serious attacks. Our best chance came early in the game when Connor Cracknell received a good pass in behind the defence at right wing & found himself one on one with the keeper. Unfortunately he was unable to capitalize but the signs were good that we could penetrate so early in the game. We had a number of field opportunities & shorts but couldn’t score. Against the run of play, Uni had a couple of late shorts in the 1st half & went up 1 nil after converting a short that was played out after the half time siren.
The 2nd half was as promising as the 1st with the Hawkes playing good hockey. James Gradisen dominated the midfield with good support from wing halves Steve DeWind & Clinton Laurentsch & Daniel Keene at left inner. Paul Bailey was also looking dangerous up front with skipper Lee Hansord having more of the ball as the game progressed always looking to create a scoring opportunity. Despite more short corners, the Hawkes could not equalize despite coming desperately close late in the game.
Despite the loss, this was definitely one of our better performances.
Special thanks to Dave Gibbs filling in at short notice. Gibbo assisted with a sound performance coming off the bench playing confidently right half.
Final score Uni 1 Hawkes 0

The Twos- Barry Romaro

Southern River Twos V’s Fremantle
Challenge Cup
We went into this game knowing that if we produced our best hockey we would finish the day with smiles all round and a flag to hang in our club rooms. Today just was not our day we out-played Fremantle all over the park, we had seventy plus percent of the ball numerous shots on goal and
we just did not get the result we were after. I would like to thank Troy and brad from the fours
Filling in for our two strike forwards whom through injury and holidays could not make it. Also I would like to thank Ian Eggington for sitting on the sideline in his gear just in case we lost a fourth
player in the game. Ian nearly got used as Alex injured his foot at the start of the second half and did not return to the field. The final score was 1-3 loss to us but we take away the knowledge that the game was lost by centimeters as today our finishing is what let us down, the score could easily been five-three in our favor. We will have to tighten up at the back to give our forwards a lower target to achieve and we will be working on that in the coming weeks. A very big thankyou to Lee Hansord for umpiring our game at short notice.

Goal Scorers: Troy Cornish 1,
Best players: team effort

The Threes- Phil Parkes
Well the bitter taste in our mouths just keeps getting bitter after our second loss to Kalamunda this year. There were some big pluses for the team to take away. The team game was by far one of the best for the season and with some minor adjustments the grail will become even closer within our grasp. There were some big performances all over the field and with some very tired players towards the end we kept on pushing and taking it upto Kala all the way. The game started tensely and after the first warning things started to settle down. SR held their own in the first half until Kala scored their first goal after an unkindly bounce. With some great support from the sideline and DK running the bench the game plan was reset for the second half.
The second half started with us having a lot of the possession and it wasn’t long until the score was one all after Aza deceived the goalie with a windie and then pushed the ball under the goalies feet, classic goal. The team kept on pressing hard but the opportunities that were presented did not eventuate and with the defence holding the Kala scoreless in the second half, the full time score ended at one all. Now it was time for extra time and golden goal. Seven and half minutes is such a short time and although we pushed hard we were still unable to capitalise and Kala still remained the score remained one all. Change of sides to start the second half with cramp setting in and the bench looking slim we pushed on. Late in the second half Kala finally found the ball in the back of our net after a short corner and that is when the taste began to sour. Overall it was our best game of the season and as a Captain I can not ask for any more as everyone game 110%. Well done guys and we will beat them when it matters the most. Thanks to our supporters on the day, DK for running the bench and Brad for umpiring.
BOG: Aaron, Ian, Dave Blair

The Ladies- Paula Westell

Im sorry Ladies I couldn’t open the file attachment from Paula. However I was a your game for a short time and witnessed a fine display of team hockey and the result was fitting. Congratulations on your efforts.
Two Challenge Cup victories in the first two years of your existence speak volumes for your great effort in following up on last years victory. Well done from all at the Hawks….

The Vets- No report. Congratulations on a great result. Again your efforts make us very proud as a club. Keep up the great work guys….

THE GAMES-19/7/08

THE LADIES-PAULA WESTELL
Hawks 1 vs Subs 0

It is so much easier to write reports when the game is a thriller however I can’t exactly say that’s what this game was. We definitely had an eventful game though with Alanah scoring our first goal in the opening minutes not realizing this would be our only goal. Hayley went off with a seriously injured foot, Tash our goalkeeper strained her quad and had to be subbed, fortunately Miranda was there and keen as mustard to stand in goals but Karyn did her usual stuff controlling the game and she must have been playing well to draw the attention of the opposition umpire who had apparently been ‘watching her all game’, it didn’t help her as she copped an errant stick to the head and has a lovely shiner to show for it. Jo played an excellent game and controlled the right half unfortunately she did too good a job and they stopped bringing the ball down that side of the field, however when they swapped to the left they didn’t realize they would have to get past Lou who seemed to have their number almost every time and hit the ball flat and hard with precision back to the forwards to mount the next attack. Ang was in all the right places and seemed to be involved in every forward attack unfortunately her radar was a bit off, (like the rest of us) she should have come away with 5 or more goals but instead was kept scoreless. Jessica played well and was not intimidated by the older ladies and had a few scoring opportunities as well. You would think that having a D that almost touched the side and 25m line would be every attackers dream but for us it seemed to be the opposite. A big thanks to our subs (Candice, Collette, Tilly) coming all the way to Nedlands not knowing if they were going to get a game but were happy to sit and watch, fortunately for us they were there and called upon to help out when the injuries occurred. A very very very big thanks to Heathy for driving all the way to Nedlands to umpire for us even when he was not well.

THE TWOS-BARRY ROMARO
“Veterans save the day”
This week we were more worried about finding enough players to field a team than winning it. With seven players injured or unavailable and a game against the third placed side on the ladder our hopes of maintaining our lead at the top of the ladder were remote to say the least. Nobody believes in them selves like the mighty Southern River Hockey Club and before long we had scrapped together our rag-tag group of players to take on Kwinana. Thankyou to the following vets David Vanderputt, Barry Vanderputt, John Trent, Paul Dixie and James Gradisen for providing us with the numbers to put a full side together. Today Rusty Snook took the opportunity to play twos that he had earned with many weeks of outstanding play with the thirds and he fitted in very well. Rusty was very unlucky not to score a few goals and was a handful for the Kwinana defense all day. The way in which we played the game today was the reason for our unlikely win with Gavin, Barry and Gibbo controlling the midfield we repelled every thing Kwinana had to offer, whilst tearing apart there defense with our attack through many penetrating runs. The ever reliable Clive teamed up with James was an impassable backline that only allowed one field goal shot on goal all match. Up front our makeshift forward line tormented the Kwinana backline forcing some fantastic saves from the Kwinana goalkeeper. Short ball passes and lots of back tackling was the spectacle of the day. A very big thankyou to John Heath, Quinton Fraser and Kevin Pethick for umpiring our game at short notice. Great game boys “go the mighty Hawks”.

THE THREES-PHIL PARKES
With half the side missing in action it was time for a steady course of action to ensure we gained possession of the three points. Our Juniors Matt and Luke joined their team and an impression they did make. Their decision making and execution was outstanding and only demonstrated their previous experience has been well earned. We had most of the play in the second half and it wasn’t long before the scoreboard showed 1 Nil after a perfectly executed short corner with big Danny leading the way. Practice makes perfect so get ready for more practice. Before we knew it Aza scored the second goal outsmarting the defenders and the keeper, two – Nil. Half time and our heads were high for our makeshift team.

The second half was not as easy as the first, with Dale putting up a strong attack but our defence remained strong with Noel acting as an extra full back the way he cleared the ball out of the D. There was some strong work on the wings by our young guys including Rat. After nearly a whole half with out scoring a goal a great play was made out of defence down the left wing with ball being passed into the centre leaving the defence flat footed and creating not only a two on one with keeper but a four on one and with Dave Blair taking the ball pass the keeper. 3 – Nil and the final score. Thanks to Lloyd for umpiring and to Rat, Matt and Luke. Well done boys.

Goals Danny, Aaron, Dave Blair

Thanks to Dave Vanderputt and John Heath for marking the grounds in my absence.

Multi Challenge Winners

The weekend of July the 12th was a general bye for the Hockey Association to make room for the Challenge Cup games. Once each team within each division have played each other the two tops teams in each division play each other in the “Challenge Cup” to find the best mid season teams.

Southern River, who are no novice to the Challenge Cup, were winners in 2007 courtesy of the Women’s side. This year the club had five teams battle it out in the Challenge Cup, being three of the men’s teams, the Vets team, and the women’s team.

The results for Southern River for 2008 were:

Men’s Provisional 2 Gold – UWA 1 defeated Southern River 0
Men’s Metro 3 White – Fremantle 3 defeated Southern River 1
Men’s Metro 4 – Kalamunda 2 defeated Southern River 1
Men’s Vets O40 Div 4 – Southern River 3 defeated Westside Wolves 2
Women’s Metro 2 Gold – Southern River 2 defeated Kwinana 1

Well done to the Women’s for their back to back win and the Vets for their first win.

With five of the six senior teams still in the top four (the men’s one, men’s two, and the Vets in 1st place) the club is looking well positioned for a few premiership flags come the end of season.

Goal Frenzy Hawks

July 18th, 2008 by Jonathon Lanzon

Hawks Score

In the last fixtured round before the Challenge Cup break the Hawks saw themselves take on Riverside Lions. Lions, who had a strong start in the season, have found themselves drop down to fifth after some recent losses. Hawks on the other hand are sitting nervously on the top of the ladder, one point ahead of second.

Although not the strongest team in the competition the Lions have been known to put up a good fight with most matchups seeing the Lions only marginally losing. The Hawks were not prepared to lose the top spot with their eyes on staying number one. With a few players down the Hawks promoted David Gibb and Quinton Fraser from the twos team to fill the gaps.

The game started with the Hawks off the blocks the fastest. Domination in the half line saw the Hawks frequent in attack. It didn’t take long before Paul Bailie open the score line with a perfect shot from the edge of the circle. With one goal down the Lions looked a bit uneasy while the hawks continued to attack with precision. This allowed Leighton Keane and Lee Hansord to both score of short corners before the end of the half.

Three goals up and the Hawks were glowing. Although the game was far from over and the Hawks knew they needed to keep up the teamwork to guarantee victory. The Lions on the other hand seemed depleted being forced on their back foot as soon as the second half started. After another short corner the Hawks saw the fourth goal after a set shot strike from Lee. Paul Bailie and Jonathon Lanzon had to fight for the fifth goal after a stray rebound saw both Paul and Jonathon rush for the open goal. Paul was the successor seeing his second goal for the night.

After narrowly missing his chance to get on the scoreboard a quality cross from Dean Savage Morton to Jonathon in the circle allowed Jonathon to put away the sixth goal. Lee who was hungry for a hat-trick received and sent the ball with the goal of the game in to the top left hand corner.

With a few seconds remaining the Hawks were happy to finish the game 7-0. Unfortunately a late charge from the Lions saw them being awarded a short corner on the final buzzer. With half the Hawks team watching the short being played out the Lions pulled away their only goal of the night with a deflection close to the post. Final score 7-1.

The Hawks played extremely well to dominate the game so strongly. A special thanks to Dave Vanderputt for helping the team out in the player’s box with Coach Barry Vanderputt being unavailable to attend.

Next week’s game is the Challenge Cup where the Hawks take on UWA for a fight for the midway flag.

Goals: Lee Hansort (3), Paul Bailie (2), Jonathon Lanzon, Leighton Keane

Best on Ground: Lee Hansord, Paul Bailie, Leighton Keane
