Last weekend was a mixture of mixed results for all Southern River teams. The First Men’s team were ready and roaring for their match up against Old Aquinians at Melville on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Hawks team Old Aquinians were unable to field a full side and therefore forfeiting the game giving the Hawks 3 points and an extra 5 goals to increase their goal average.
Other results on the weekend were wins for the Second Men’s team and the Vets side. The Women’s team had an uncharacteristic draw against third placed Old Aquinians. While the Third Men’s team, the U15s, U13s, and the U11 Blue side were unfortunate to not take any points away.
Goal scorers for the weekend were John Trent and Alahna Anset both with two goals, and one goal to Barry Romaro, Colin Smith, and Connor Cracknell.
Some of the Hawks teams are well positioned going into the finals with guaranteed entry for the First Men’s team who will end the season in third, the Second Men’s team will end the season in second, and a big congratulations to guaranteed minor premiers; the Hawks Women’s team.
There is still one more game for most teams before the finals. Good luck to all!

The Hawks number one men’s team are nearing the end of the competition and this week they were lined up against Old Guildford for the last time before the finals. To Old Guildford, 4th on the ladder, this game was a must win to guarantee them into the finals. The Hawks weren’t going to let this cloud their ability as they too need to stay in form in order to stand a chance in the finals.
The Hawks line-up once again saw player changes with Simon Gillespie back in the side to replace ever reliable Kevin Pethick and goal scorer Guy Hoskin. The team was weakened further with Jonathon Lanzon and Daniel Keane both suffering from the flu. With a substitute on the bench Coach Barry Vanderpuut had his work made out ensuring all players were well rested.

The Southern River Hawks Provisional 2 team saw themselves matched up with 5th places Riverside Lions over the weekend. The weather conditions were pleasant for the Saturday afternoon game and the Hawks were in no doubt they weren’t going to give away much needed point to the Lions.
The team line up was close to its true form with the return of Leighton Keane and Gavin Mclarren. While Steve Martino was out, bringing the side to twelve players. Coach Barry Vanderputt was almost ready to shine off his stick after the earlier time slot caused some players to turn up moments before hit off.

Another late Saturday evening and another game for the Hawks first side men’s team. This weekend’s game was against top of the table UWA played on the second ground of the Perth Hockey Stadium. The Hawks have only faced UWA once where they went down 4-2.
The line-up for this game changed with Thomas Vince in goals for Brett Chappells and short notice losses to Leighton Keane and Gavin Mclarren meaning the Hawks normal 13 sided team was reduced to 11. This would have made the strong UWA team feel confident with their two bench side of 13 players.

On what was a miserable wet weekend the Hawks’ number one side was up against the Subs at the late time of 8:30pm on a Melville Turf Saturday night. The Hawks had experienced good form in their previous two games leaving the team determined to make it three in a row and finally beat the unbeatable.
For once the team went into the game unchanged from the previous week. Everyone knew their role, everyone was ready to strike early. The team lined up in the middle of the field early; waiting for the opposition and the umpires. Once all were ready the coin (well it’s actually a stick) was tossed and Captain Lee Hansord picked the winner electing to start with the ball.
