Hawks Miss Out

June 26th, 2007 by Jonathon Lanzon

Nine rounds into the Provisional 2 Competition and this was the first showdown between the Hawks and second position UWA. This weekend’s game was at UWA’s home turf on a late (and cold) Saturday night. A win in this game would move the Hawks side to second. A loss would mean the Hawks had more ground to cover to be minor premiers.

Once again the team line up had some major changes with John Heath filling in for Leighton Keane and Gavin Mclarren who were unavailable, while Brett Chappels was back and roaring in place of Andrew Airey. All players knew this was an important game. Everyone was pumped and eager to take second spot away from the unknown UWA side.

Hawks Suffer First Defeat

June 19th, 2007 by Jonathon Lanzon

The season’s most anticipated game for the Hawks’ number one men’s side against top side Subs occurred at Joondalup on the weekend. The game had a lot running on it. A win would see the Hawks at the top of the ladder. A lost would mean the Hawks need to fight harder to make it to the Challenge Cup.

The game was held late on Sunday afternoon at the mysterious location of Joondalup Arena. Mysterious because it has been over a year since the Hawks have made their way up to Joondalup and it will be their last long trek for the season.

First Club Function

June 17th, 2007 by Lloyd Jones

The Southern River Hockey Clubs first function for the year turned out to be a great night and those that came along were treated to a great meal thanks to the mighty efforts of Nina, Jean, Debbie and Jenny.

The theme for the nite was an Indian fancy dress complimented with some fine Indian cuisine  - thanks to the ladies mentioned.

Some of the ladies dressed for the occassion and looked splendid in their colourfull outfits.  Fred and Lloyd wore some interesting head gear and Spencer a colourful Indian one day Cricket shirt. The judge had difficulty picking a winner so all three of them get a free beer at the next training session.

Keep an eye out for information on our next function that is our Christmas in July to be held on Saturday the 21st.

Hawks Keep the Upper Hand

June 13th, 2007 by Jonathon Lanzon

This week the Southern River’s number one men’s side showed bottom of the ladder Old Aquinians why they are undefeated. However the game was anything put a cruise in the park after trying times almost cost the Hawks their closing grip on the top two sides.

The match up against Old Aquinians was at UWA’s Turf on a nice warm Sunday afternoon. The Hawks knew they were going to be tested after major changes in the team line-up. Carl Vanderputt and Simon Gillespie were out from injury and trusted goal keeper Brett Chappells was unable to make the game making room for Thomas Vince in goals and Steven Martino up front.
