Round 4 results are in and the Hawks are still undefeated!
This week we saw the Hawks take on Old Aquinians on Mother’s Day at the UWA turf in a match the Hawks needed to win to make solid ground in the top 4.
Three games in and the team have formed a regular line up with no changes from the previous week other than Simon Gillespie starting in defence in place of Rob De Wind who was delayed in making hit off time.
With Lee Hansord winning the toss the Hawks took the ball for the start of the game hit out. The game started with anxious times on both sides trying to keep their opposition goal-less. However it wasn’t too long when the Hawks put themselves in the lead after a scramble in front of Old Aquinians’ goals and Guy Hoskin knocking the ball over the line.
With the Hawks in the lead they continued to show their dominance after some quality team work and a second goal with Lee adding to his total. The Old Aquinians were kept under pressure after the Hawks were awarded multiple penalty corners pulling out another two goals courtesy of a variation from Leighton Keane to Lee to Jonathon Lanzon and back to Lee for a flick into goals. The first half ended 3-0 to the Hawks.
The second half started and the Hawks were quickly tested in defence, however goalie Brett Chappells showed his skill keeping the Old Aquinians goal-less. The Hawks quickly regrouped putting the pressure back on allowing Guy to get his second goal for the game. The goals didn’t stop there after the Hawks created their best team work so far (quoted by Coach Barry) seeing Lee finish the game with a hat-trick and his fifth goal for the club.
Final score; 5-0 to the Hawks. Well done to all it was a classy display of team work. The Hawks next game is against Riverside Lions on Sunday the 20th at 7:00pm on the Shenton Turf.

Mother’s Day weekend and the Hawks Club Rooms were filled with supporters for a spectacle of hockey on both fields.
The first time slot saw the Hawks Womens’ side convincingly beat Riverside Lions 8-0 on field 1. On Field 2 the result was 3-1 to the U15 Hawks pushing them up to 2nd position with their win against Mazenod after a hat-trick to Connor Cracknell.
The second group of games started (or didn’t) with the Mens 3 team being awarded the win after a forfeit from Whitfords. Unfortunately the other game scheduled at this time slot wasn’t as successful with the Vets side narrowing missing out to the CT Pirates with a 0-1 loss.
Next week there will only be one home game with the Vets side taking on Hale at 3:30pm.

Round 3 and this was the Hawks second game of the season after having a rest from the bye last week. The team having narrowly missed out on a win in the first week were determined to take away three points from this eagerly anticipated game.
The line-up was the same as the last game except for the addition of Leighton into fullback (after his role with one of WA’s state teams over East) and Kevin moving into right Half. Unfortunately for the opposition, Willetton, they were down on players and weren’t able to field a full team for the start of the match.
The whistle blew, the game was off, and the Hawks took advantage of their extra players pouncing on Willetton’s defence to take control of the game. Willetton did well to defend a strong Hawks team however the Hawks were too strong with Lee putting the Hawks in the lead with his first shot from a short corner.
The Hawks continued their strong form with impressive team work opening gaps in Willetton’s defence creating plenty of goal shooting opportunities. No one close to the goals was safe as the hawks knocked an extra five goals on the board with an extra goal from Lee, two goals from Jonathon, one goal from Daniel, and one goal from Guy putting the official score line at 6-0 on the half time mark.
The second half started and Willetton put up a strong attack with multiple attacking short corners. Brett was determined to leave the score line clean and did well to keep the goals safe from a Willetton shot. Before the end of the game the Hawks managed another two goals; one goal to Simon and another from Lee to give him his hat trick.
After an impressive performance from a goal scoring Hawks Team the electronic scoreboard was unable to keep up missing one of Lee’s goals and finalising the win as 7-0. The Hawks next game is against Old Aquinians on Sunday the 13th at 1:00pm on the UWA Turf.

On Sunday the 22nd of April the Mens 1 team had their first game of the season against the Subs at Shenton Turf. The day was wet and windy with frequent light shows in the night sky, thankfully the turf was lightning free.
The Hawks Line-up saw Brett in goals, Kevin and Rob as the Full Backs, Gavin in Centre Half, James and Steve the other Half Backs, Daniel and Guy on the Wings, Lee and Carl the Inners and Jonathon playing Centre Forward.
Captain Leigh won the toss and elected to start with the ball. The game started with excitement from the top Hawks team who held the ball well. The Hawks passed the ball around nicely and kept the subs on their toes. The first half saw three close attacking shots from the Hawks and just as many defensive short corners. The half ended with a drawing score line of 0-0.
The second half started with the same line up as the start of the game with the Hawks showing early determination after wise words from Coach Barry. Early in the second half Simon sent a beauty of a shot from the tightest of angles at the top of the D to put Hawks in front 1-0. The Hawks held on to the lead as hard as they could successfully defending multiple short corners however 2 minutes before the end of the game Subs managed to get one back with a goal off a deflection on the post.
The game ended in a draw 1-1 with the Hawks’ heads held high after a good game with a tough competitor. The team thanks James for his hard work after playing two games on the weekend and Jonathon for keeping the pressure on the Subs defence.
The Hawks next game is against Willetton on Saturday the 5th of May at 4:00pm on Melville Turf. Watch out for the return of super defender Leighton!
